BPT Course: Eligibility, Duration and Career Scope
Physiotherapy is one of the most popular health careers for students who studied biology in Class 12. Physiotherapists work with patients after sports injuries, fractures, surgery, strokes and long illnesses, and with older people to keep them mobile. The degree is the Bachelor of Physiotherapy, or BPT.
Course duration
BPT usually takes four and a half years: four years of study followed by a six-month compulsory internship in hospitals and rehabilitation centres. Check the exact structure with the university, because it can vary.

Registration
Physiotherapy is one of the professions covered by the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions Act, 2021. Registration rules under the Act are being put in place, and some states already have their own councils. Check the current rule in the state where you plan to practise.
How to choose a good college

- The college has an attached hospital with real patient load for clinical postings.
- Labs for electrotherapy and exercise therapy are equipped, and faculty are qualified physiotherapists.
- The full fee for all years is given in writing.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use the title "Dr." after BPT?
Rules on this have changed over time and differ by authority. Follow the current guidance from the regulator and your state before using any title.
Is BPT a good option if I did not get MBBS?
For students who enjoy working closely with patients, yes. It is a full clinical profession, not a fallback, and it can lead to your own practice.
Read more on our BPT course page, compare it with occupational therapy, or book a counselling slot to find colleges that fit your marks and budget.
